OKLAHOMA CITY - OCU battles its way back but falls short after a full-court heave from Florida College banks in off the backboard as the buzzer sounded handing the Stars their first loss of the season.
Oklahoma City (1-1) overcame as much as a 10-point deficit as the lead traded hands towards the end of the contest however Florida College (4-0) secured the upper hand with no time left on the clock.
Brandon Jackson picked up right where he left off as Jackson knocked down a pair of threes on back-to-back possessions to open the game. Jackson scored the first eight points in the game for OCU and finished with a team-high 21 points going 50% from the field and cashed in on five threes.
Florida College took a 14-12 lead with 14:13 to play in the half and never relished the advantage as the Falcons held on to lead for the entirety of the period.
The Falcons maintained their lead halfway through the second half and took their largest lead of the night of 10 points after Drew Kramer slammed it home with 10:48 to play.
The Stars finally began to flip the switch as James Cloud came off the bench and delivered a three to get OCU going. The Stars continued to go chip away with Yorgio Golesis knocking down a jumper and a three-point play from Avery Jackson to cut the deficit down to two with under eight to play.
Down by two, the Stars put together a 6-0 run after a pair of threes from James Cloud and Avery Jackson as Oklahoma City took its first lead since it was 5-4.
Down the stretch, the lead began to trade hands as five lead changes took place from the 3:09 mark to 1:16 left to go.
Down by two with 12 seconds to go the Stars decided to draw it up for the freshman with the hot hand in Golesis. Out of the inbound Golesis found his way to the rack to finish the layup with 1.8 remaining tied up a 87 all.
Coming out of the timeout it felt as if overtime was on the horizon however Cam Selders had other plans as his buzzer-beating hail mary heave banked in with no time left handing the Stars a devastating three-point loss.
Freshman Yorgio Golesis had the first breakout game of his career as the young Star put up 18 points on 7-14 shooting to go along with four assists.
Avery Jackson stepped up for Oklahoma City in a big way late down the stretch as Jackson scored 15 points in the second half alone and finished with 19 total along with six rebounds while going 6-13 from the field.
Oklahoma City's bench provided a high upside by outscoring Florida College 34-20 in that department.
Florida College's paint presence was displayed in dominating fashion as the Falcons held a 42-20 advantage in the paint against the Stars.
OCU will return to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 4 for the final day of the Abe Lemons Classic as the Stars will look to get back on the winning side against Northern New Mexico at 2 PM.
