OKLAHOMA CITY - After dropping two consecutive matches the Oklahoma City volleyball team finds a way to get back on track with a sweep over Southwestern Christian on Friday night inside Abe Lemons Arena.

Set 1
OCU jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead over the Eagles as four different Stars earned kills during that span. SCU brought it back to 7-5 only for the Stars to turn in a 5-1 run behind two kills from Rylee Steward and a pair of aces from Hannah Grundy. Leading 17-11 OCU rattled off five straight points to extend out to its largest lead of the set as Grundy collected two kills to help get the Stars out to a 22-11 lead. The Stars were able to close out the set on a Natalie Adams ace to win 25-14.
Set 2
To start set two the Stars scored the first four points as Michela De Stefano started things off with a kill and Jaiden Downey served two aces to put OCU up 4-0. Once SCU cut the lead down to two the Stars went off on a 7-1 run as Ruby Kelley gained two kills along with a service ace to extend the lead out to 11-3. Southwestern Christian was able to cut the lead down to as close as six however Oklahoma City had other plans by closing out the set on a 9-1 run as Kaitlyn Dunlap collected two aces and Kelley had one kill to go along with one more ace to finish out the second set with a 25-11 victory.
Set 3
After SCU took a 3-2 lead Oklahoma rattled off six straight points as Kelley and Adams secured a kill each and Downey finished things off with an ace heading into an Eagle timeout. OCU extended its lead out to 12-4 after four straight points with three kills from De Stefano, Kelley, and Grundy. Southwestern Christian battled its way back into it and got within one point as OCU led 19-18. The Stars were able to get to 23-20 lead after kills from Emma Nickerson and Steward however SCU scored three straight to give the set its first tie since it was 3-3. After an OCU timeout, the Stars closed out the set with back-to-back kills from Nickerson and Kelley to escape the third set with a 25-23 victory.
Game Notes
- Oklahoma City led the way with 37 kills on a .187 attack percentage while Southwestern Christian made 21 kills on a .041 hitting percentage.
- OCU tied its season-high with 13 aces that previously came in its last meeting with Southwestern Christian on the road.
- The Stars held the advantage over the Eagles with 53 digs opposed to SCU's 50.
- Ruby Kelley led the match with 12 kills making it the seventh straight contest with 10 or more kills and the 13th time Kelley has notched double-digit kills.
- Natalie Adams dropped a total of 27 assists in the three-set match as Adams solidified her 17th match of the season with 20 more assists.
- Kaitlyn Dunlap secured her second-most aces of the season with four while accumulating 18 digs.
- Kristen Coventon earned her 90th win as the head coach of the Stars in tonight's match. Coventon, in her fifth season at the helm for OCU, has reached double-digit wins in every season as the leader for the Stars.
- With the win, OCU sweeps the season series after sweeping SCU on the road back on Sept. 8. Oklahoma City earns its 10th straight victory over the Eagles as OCU extends the all-time series record out to 21-1 in favor of the Stars.

OCU volleyball will pick things back up in one week against the number 14 team in the country Texas Wesleyan on the road in Fort Worth, Texas. The Stars will look to make a push in the SAC standings and even up the season series next Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 PM.
