LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oklahoma City University posted a 28-21 victory against Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at the Kentucky Exposition Center in the NWCA National Duals. 

Oklahoma City, ranked 15th in NAIA women's wrestling, prevailed in a showdown of teams ranked in the top 15 against No. 11 Iowa Wesleyan. The Stars (4-3) took 14th in the tournament after No. 12 Missouri Baptist downed OCU 27-20. 

Irene Sanchez delivered a fall and technical fall Saturday with a pin of Iowa Wesleyan's Emma Cole in 3:34 in the 155-pound match. Sanchez, a senior mathematics major from Madrid, Spain, put OCU ahead 23-16 to clinch the dual victory.  

At 109 pounds, Iby Garcia of the Stars came up with a fall in 1:07 against Destiny Carranza. Avery Ashley produced a 12-2 win over Faith Cole at 116 pounds, while Destiny Lyng blanked Isabelle Hawley 10-0 at 143 pounds to boost Oklahoma City.  

Against Missouri Baptist, OCU forfeited the 191-pound contest to make the difference in the dual. Ashley and Angelina Adams took wins by technical fall for the Stars. 

The Stars meet Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at a location to be announced.
