Stars take on nationally ranked Pioneers

THE MATCHUP
•  OCU looks to bounce back against No. 22 Wayland Baptist. 
•  OCU plays their second of three straight road games.
•  The Stars come into the game with a winning record of 45-24 in the all-time series against WBU. 

ABOUT THE STARS
•  OCU fell victim to a rough second half in their one-point loss to Panhandle State on Thursday
•  Kori Guest, a senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., piled in 25 points to lead the Stars. Guest has averaged 14.7 points a game up to this point.
•  The Stars led for over 38 minutes in the game and by as much as 16.
•  The Stars have been aggressive getting to the line shooting 21.5 free throws per game good enough for 32nd in the NAIA.
•  The Stars took the seventh spot in the preseason Sooner Athletic Conference coaches' poll. Oklahoma City has seized 20 SAC regular-season championships and 12 SAC Tournament titles. Oklahoma City owns 26 appearances in the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament with nine national championships won in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017 with four national runner-up finishes (2003, 2004, 2005, 2019). 

ABOUT THE PIONEERS
• Wayland Baptist come into the game with a 10-4, 5-3 record. 
•  In their last game the Pioneers defeated John Brown 78-54. 
•  D'Michael Bellfield had an all-around solid game leading all scorers with a career-high 31 points, five steals, and eight rebounds.
•  He is averaging 12.6 points a game this season. 
•  As a team the Pioneers pile on 86.9 points per game good enough for 15th in the NAIA. 
•  Wayland Baptist took the top spot in the 2022-23 SAC preseason coaches' poll. 

MEET THE COACHES

Mark Berokoff (second season with OCU, 23-22)

•  Mark Berokoff directed Oklahoma City to a 17-14 record in his first season as the Stars' head coach. The Stars collected the No. 3 seed in the SAC Tournament and earned their most conference wins since 2009-10 with a 15-7 mark.  
• Berokoff directed Randall to three national championships and a national runner-up showing in nine years as head coach of the Saints. Berokoff led Randall to a 147-122 mark. Randall annually squared off with SAC teams and knocked off OCU twice in that span. 
• Berokoff produced five national player of the year honorees, 16 all-Americans, three national tournament outstanding player award winners and one scholar all-American with Randall. Berkoff became two-time national coach of the year. 
• Berokoff's coaching career spans the high school, college and professional levels. His combined head-coaching record over 20 years in the college and prep ranks was 389-213 entering the 2022-23 season. 


Clint Galyean (second season with WBU, 29-17)

•  Galyean served as head coach at Central Baptist College (Ark.) before taking over at Wayland Baptist. He guided CBC to a 63-27 record and three NAIA National Tournament appearances.
•  He recruited and developed six NAIA All-Americans in four years, as well as 15 all-conference players and eight academic all-conference players.
•  Recruited to play at Angelo State by former University of Texas head coach Chris Beard, he became a student assistant coach after injuries cut his playing career short.
•  Served as graduate assistant coach at ASU for two years while earning his master's degree in coaching, sport, recreation and fitness management.
