Stars pay visit to cross-town rival Southwestern Christian

THE MATCHUP 

• Oklahoma City University completes a three-game stretch of road games at Sooner Athletic Conference opponent Southwestern Christian
• The Stars ended a four-game losing skid on the road Saturday 

ABOUT THE STARS 

• Oklahoma City topped Wayland Baptist (Texas) 88-82 on Saturday in Plainview, Texas. The Stars (7-8, 5-4 SAC) halted a nine-game losing streak at the Hutcherson Center and notched their first win at Wayland Baptist since a 74-51 victory Feb. 9, 2012 
Kori Guest, a 6-foot-2 senior criminal justice major from Tulsa, Okla., propelled OCU with career highs in scoring (31 points) and 3-pointers (seven) on Saturday. He hit all six of his free-throw tries and 7 of 9 3-point attempts while grabbing seven rebounds. Guest became SAC player of the week after averaging 28.0 points and 6.0 rebounds with 70.6 percent shooting from 3-point land last week. Guest has tallied 21.2 points a game with a 58.3 percent 3-point shooting percentage over the past five contests. On the season, Guest has posted 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 43.8 from downtown and 81.1 percent from the foul line 
Dravon Clayborn, a 6-2 senior business administration major from Evanston, Ill., provided the Stars with 15 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. He has turned in 15.3 points a game over the last four games. Clayborn produces 11.1 points, 3.7 assists and 1.53 steals a game this season 
• OCU ranks 23rd in the NAIA by making 15.4 free throws a game in 2022-23 
• The Stars came in seventh in the preseason SAC coaches poll. OCU owns 13 SAC regular-season championships and 10 SAC Tournament titles. Oklahoma City has advanced to the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament 25 times all-time and has won six national championships in 1991, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008 
• Oklahoma City has gone 16-3 against Southwestern Christian over the years. The Stars prevailed in overtime 108-100 on Feb. 12, 2022 at Abe Lemons Arena in the last encounter between the two schools. Guest scored 16 points 

ABOUT THE EAGLES 

• North Texas Dallas sank Southwestern Christian 79-69 on Saturday in Dallas. The Eagles (6-6, 4-5 SAC) shot 4-for-17 from 3-point land to match their season low in treys 
• Shawn Hopkins, a 6-4 junior, had 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench, hitting 9 of his 12 field-goal attempts and 4-for-5 at the free-throw line. He led a Southwestern Christian second unit that scored 35 points. Hopkins averages 17.0 points and 6.6 rebounds a game with a 63.8 percent field-goal percentage this season 
• League coaches placed Southwestern Christian at ninth in the SAC preseason poll 

ABOUT THE COACHES 

Mark Berokoff (second season with OCU, 24-22) 
Mark Berokoff directed Oklahoma City to a 17-14 record in his first season as the Stars' head coach. The Stars collected the No. 3 seed in the SAC Tournament and earned their most conference wins since 2009-10 with a 15-7 mark 
• Berokoff directed Randall to three national championships and a national runner-up showing in nine years as head coach of the Saints. Berokoff led Randall to a 147-122 mark. Randall annually squared off with SAC teams and knocked off OCU twice in that span  
• Berokoff produced five national player of the year honorees, 16 all-Americans, three national tournament outstanding player award winners and one scholar all-American with Randall. Berkoff became two-time national coach of the year  
• Berokoff's coaching career spans the high school, college and professional levels. His combined head-coaching record over 20 years in the college and prep ranks was 389-213 entering the 2022-23 season 

Brandon Rollins (fourth season with SCU, 41-49) 
• Southwestern Christian has lost all six meetings against OCU under Brandon Rollins 
• Prior to Southwestern Christian, Rollins held an assistant coaching position at Mid-America Christian, where he helped lead the Evangels to the 2016 NAIA Division I national championship. He spent one season as an assistant coach at Southwestern Christian under Quinn Wooldridge and one season as an assistant coach at Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City 
• Rollins played collegiately at SCU, appearing in 89 games for the Eagles after they joined the NAIA in 2010-11
