NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University women's soccer team came up clutch in crunch time to tie Bethel (Kan.) 3-3 and avoid the loss on Thursday at Thresher Stadium.
The Stars are now 3-1-1 on the season. Top performers were Saizlee Carlton and Abby Russell who came up with the clutch plays late.
After a quiet first half for OCU, Millie Templeman started off the scoring with a goal in the 46th minute with the assist coming from Madi Caputo. Templeman registered her first goal on the season. Caputo's assist would be her fourth.
Oklahoma City had 12 of its 17 shots in the second half.
The Threshers would score two straight goals under four minutes apart. In the 77th minute, Saizlee Carlton assisted Abby Russell on one of her two goals. Six minutes later, Russell scored her second goal and Saizlee collected her second assist. The two goals would bring Russell's season total up to four and the two assists by Saizlee would be her first ones.
The Stars and Threshers both had chances after the Stars tied it in the 83rd minute, but neither could capitalize. Defensively, Irene Gonzales had three saves for Oklahoma City.
OCU plays next 5 p.m. Saturday against Southwestern (Kan.) at Brian Harvey Field.
