OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University cruised past Southwestern (Kan.) 6-2 on Saturday at Brian Harvey Field.
The Stars' record now stands at 4-1-1 on the women's soccer season. The Stars scored early, late and in between. Saizlee Carlton and April Hill both came away with two goals, and Madi Caputo collected four straight assists to start the first period off.
Caputo, a senior from Broken Arrow, Okla., had her first two assists going to Saizlee Carlton. Her first assist came in the fourth minute to Carlton, and her second came in the ninth minute. Carlton, a freshman from Amarillo, Texas, brought her season total to four. Her other two goals came against Randall on Aug. 30.
Caputo's next assist came on a cross to Sydney Hawkins in the 21st minute. Hawkins, a sophomore from Midwest City, Okla., nabbed her second goal of the year. Caputo's final assist came on April Hill's goal seven minutes later at the 28:45 mark. Caputo's four assists would bring her total to a team lead of eight assists on the year.
The goal for Hill, a senior from Portsmouth, Petersfield, England, would be her third on the year, but not her last on the game as she scored again in 34th minute. The assist went to the senior from Pocklington, York, England, Millie Templeman for her third of the year. The Stars' last goal was scored unassisted off the foot of their leading goal scorer Sofia Carvajal Granados. This was Granados' seventh goal of the year.
OCU had 15 total shots with 11 shots on goal and 11 shots coming in the first period alone. The Stars also had one more save than Southwestern College at 4-3 with Irene Gonzales as goalkeeper.
The Stars' next matchup is set for 1 p.m. Thursday against Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas. The Stars' next home game won't be until 5 p.m. Oct. 4 vs. Central Christian (Kan.) at Brian Harvey Field.
