OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University absorbed a road volleyball setback within Sooner Athletic Conference play to Mid-America Christian 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23 on Thursday night at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Catelyn Vargas, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, provided OCU with 10 kills, four assists and two aces. The Stars fell to 5-6, 3-1 in league play.
In the final set, Vargas smacked a kill to put Oklahoma City ahead 22-20. Mid-America Christian responded with four consecutive points.
In the first set, the Stars got out to a 6-1 advantage. Ruby Kelley notched two kills and an ace to key OCU.
Emma Vance rang up 19 assists, 17 digs and three aces, and Kaitlyn Dunlap tracked down 21 digs. Kelley supplied the Stars with nine kills, 16 digs, five blocks and two aces, while Cassidy DeShong dished out 15 assists.
Michela de Stefano contributed nine kills and nine digs. Rylee Steward piled up eight blocks.
OCU returns to action against Langston at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Langston, Okla.
