OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's men's soccer team came out on top with a 3-1 victory over University of the Southwest (N.M.) on Monday at Brian Harvey Field.
All three of the Stars' scores came in the second period with John Woodhead earning two, giving him the team lead with four on the season. OCU moves to 4-0 on the season.
Jordan Da Costa started the scoring off in the 53rd minute for the goal. The goal came off a throw-in by Gustavo Cardoso that Da Costa immediately kicked into the back of the net. The assist was the third for Cardoso on the season. Da Costa now has five shots on goal, four assists and one goal on the season.
Just three minutes later, Woodhead scored the Stars' second goal of the game with the assist coming from Jusang Kang, giving Kang three assists on the season to match his three goals.
Jacob Martinez of the Mustangs would score their only goal nearing the end of the 60-minute mark that got by K.J Masso. Masso got his first start of the year and made many great defensive plays, but ultimately was credited with two saves on game.
The Stars' final goal came in the 68th minute off the foot of Woodhead for his second goal of the day with the assist provided by Felipe Pansica for his first on the year. OCU would end the game with 14 shots and half of them coming on goal.
OCU plays again Thursday at Bethel (Kan.) at 7:30 p.m. in North Newton, Kan.
