OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fell short to Southwestern (Kan.) 2-1 on Saturday at Brian Harvey Field for the Stars' first loss on the season.
OCU's record now stands at 5-1 on the season. The Stars' only goal came off the foot of Lucas de Freitas with Harvey Paul getting the assist.
Paul dribbled the ball down the left-field side and squeezed the ball by a defender to de Freitas, who finished it off for the score. The goal came in the 66th minute.
The Stars had multiple other chances, but failed to capitalize. One notable shot came in the 86th minute on a cross from de Freitas to Woodhead, who headed the ball off the top of the cross bar. The Stars had a few other shots go off the cross bar and multiple other shots saved by Southwestern College goalkeeper Joshua Elbi.
The goal by de Freitas, a senior from São Paolo, Brazil, stands as his fourth and the assist by Paul, a senior from Bristol, England, would be his second. Despite losing the game, the Stars had a total of 16 shots compared to nine for the Moundbuilders. Eight shots came in each half and eight came on goal for Oklahoma City.
Danilo Vilani, a senior from Goiânia, Brazil, provided the Stars with three saves with Elbi getting seven for Southwestern College.
OCU's next game will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas. The Stars will play five straight away games until they return home on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for their game at 7 p.m. at Brian Harvey Field against Central Christian (Kan.).
