OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University hosts the 20th annual Abe Lemons Golf Classic at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at Lincoln Park Golf Course.
The Abe Lemons Golf Classic has been one of the Stars' top annual fundraising events. The tournament gathers alumni, fans and golfers together for the sake of OCU Athletics. Participants can meet and visit with OCU staff before and after the event.
The Abe Lemons Golf Classic benefits the Abe Lemons endowed scholarship as well as providing for the Stars' regular operating expenses and other possible budgetary needs in support of our student-athletes' goals and aspirations. Registration for a four-person team is $600, and hole sponsorships are $250 ($150 if also entering a team). To sign up a team or sponsor a hole, visit the online registration page or download this form (PDF) and return to the address provided. For information, or to donate prizes for the tournament, contact Chris Maxon, Associate Athletic Director for Development – camaxon@okcu.edu or (405) 208-5431.
Those competing will play in a scramble format in four-person teams. Lunch will be provided, and all players participating in the tournament will be eligible for additional prizes. Check-in takes place at 7:30 a.m., followed by an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Space is limited, and the tournament is expected to reach capacity prior to the Sept. 16 entry deadline.
"As a student-athlete, I have always appreciated the support from fundraising events like the Abe Lemons Golf Classic," said Rachel Eckert, who competed the past four years on OCU's women's golf team. "These fundraisers allow student-athletes like myself to travel the country and represent OCU in some of the most prestigious tournaments. As a soon-to-be OCU alumna, I look forward to participating in a fundraiser that gave me so much as an athlete."
Oklahoma City has collected 72 national championships in all sports and three Directors' Cup titles (2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19) over the years. OCU has won at least one national title for 29 years in a row.
Lincoln Park is celebrating 100 years as Oklahoma City's oldest public golf course. A great partner to OCU Athletics, Lincoln has been the site of the 2019 and 2022 NAIA women's golf championships. The course unveiled its new state-of-the-art $9.25 million clubhouse in spring 2015.
