OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled past Texas A&M Texarkana 6-0 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium in the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket.
Second-ranked Oklahoma City advanced to the tournament title game 11 a.m. Wednesday against No. 15 Eastern Oregon. The Stars (49-6) stand one victory away from the NAIA Softball World Series.
Shelbey Cornelson handcuffed Texas A&M Texarkana to notch her NAIA-high 32nd win and eighth shutout of the season. Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., allowed only Alyssa Gillen's infield single leading off the bottom of the second inning.
Cornelson retired 11 in a row after giving up that hit. Cornelson struck out six while moving to 32-3 this year.
OCU scored a pair of runs in the third. Amy Crabaugh reached home plate on a throwing error after taking third base on a wild pitch. The Stars' lead stretched to 2-0 after Kennedy Jackson had an RBI single to left-center field.
Crabaugh crushed a fly ball that cleared the center-field wall for a two-run home run and a 5-0 OCU advantage in the sixth. Mallory McCoy ripped an RBI double to left earlier in the inning.
Tiffany Paul scored from third on a failed pickoff attempt in the seventh.
OCU will strive for its 33rd appearance in the NAIA Softball World Series.
