Stars topple William Woods 4-1

Second-ranked OCU faces Texas A&M Texarkana at 11 a.m. Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked down William Woods (Mo.) 4-1 on Monday afternoon at Ann Lacy Stadium in the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket. 

Shelbey Cornelson stifled William Woods with a season-high 14 strikeouts. The No. 2-ranked Stars (48-6) take on Texas A&M Texarkana at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium. 

Cornelson, a senior from Tuttle, Okla., limited William Woods to three hits in a 118-pitch complete-game effort. Cornelson struck out the side in the second and the third innings. Cornelson, the NAIA's 2022 leader in wins, improved to 31-3. 

Kennedy Jackson swiped three bases Monday to increase her career total to 202, making her the second student-athlete in NAIA history with 200 stolen bases. Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., led off the game with a bunt single and stole second and third. Jackson scored OCU's first run as Tiffany Paul had an infield hit. 

Jackson added another steal, taking second after starting the fifth by bunting for a hit. Jackson reached home plate after Rally Radacy singled and an error occurred. Britney Webb from Belhaven (Miss.) set the NAIA mark with 213 steals from 2007-10. 

Mallory McCoy drove in the winning run by smacking a double into left-center field with one out in the fourth. Kaitlyn Jones nailed a base hit along the right-field foul line leading off the inning. Jones stole second and scored on McCoy's double. 

Jackson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Radacy, a freshman from Lookeba, Okla., hada 2-for-4 performance with a double, steal and run scored. Brooklyn Mason, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., had two stolen bases.
