OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the sweep of Texas Wesleyan with an 8-4 win Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Peyton Crispin rallied the Stars by doubling through the middle of the infield for the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, moved to 34-3, 13-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Darian Luper launched a three-run home run to left in the eighth inning to put OCU ahead 7-3, then Crispin belted an RBI triple into left-center field. The Stars erased a 2-1 deficit when Frederic Walter smacked a two-run double to center in the third.
Texas Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead on Chaeston Chon's two-run in the second. Texas Wesleyan evened the game 3-3 when Marcos Sanchez hit into a groundout in the sixth.
Tanner Sparks earned the victory for OCU. Sparks, a senior right-hander from Shawnee, Okla., retired 10 batters in a row from the second to the fifth innings. Sparks (5-1) limited Texas Wesleyan to three runs on five hits and a walk in seven innings.
Braden Hill struck out two Rams to begin the eighth, and Jacob Wright fanned Sanchez with two runners on to finish the eighth with OCU leading 4-3. Luper finished the game by picking off a Texas Wesleyan runner at first.
Cross Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., posted a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and three runs scored, while Luper, a senior from Ada, Okla., went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Jesse Fonteboa, a junior from Las Vegas, turned in a 2-for-3 day with a run scored, and Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., had a 2-for-5 outing with two runs driven in.
OCU visits Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 3 p.m. Friday in Waxahachie, Texas.
