McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University clinched the top seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament with 12-2 and 11-0 wins over Central Christian (Kan.) on Friday at the Central Christian complex.
The Stars, ranked second in the NAIA, moved to 42-5, 28-4 in the SAC. OCU split the SAC regular-season championship with Science & Arts (44-7, 28-4 SAC) and took the regular-season series vs. the Drovers 3-1 to collect the No. 1 seed in the league tournament coming up May 5-7.
Oklahoma City has won or shared six of the last seven SAC regular-season championships.
Brooklyn Mason pounded a two-run double to give the Stars a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the first game.
Rally Radacy brought in OCU's first run with an RBI double. Lexi Duff added a run-scoring base hit for a 2-0 OCU advantage.
In the second, OCU plated two more runs as Tiffany Paul smacked an RBI single to right. Carlee Mollet smashed a triple to left to knock in another run.
In the fifth, the Stars piled up five runs. Amy Crabaugh and Nicole Robinson had RBI singles. Radacy tripled in a run, then scored thanks to Paul's groundout.
Shelbey Cornelson struck out eight in five innings to notch the win. Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., went to 25-2.
In the second game, the Stars picked up five runs in the second inning. Paul crushed an RBI double to center field. Duff and Kaitlyn Jones drove in runs with base hits, while Mallory McCoy added a two-run single.
Crabaugh added a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Mason tacked on an RBI double in the fifth.
Lexi Duff pitched the second game, improving to 17-3.
