Stars drop 2-1 decision to Mid-America Christian

OCU squares off with Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian edged Oklahoma City University 2-1 on Friday evening at Ann Lacy Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament. 

Karlee Danielson reached home plate with the winning run on an errant pickoff throw in the seventh inning. The Stars (43-6) knocked off Central Christian (Kan.) 6-1 on Friday. OCU, ranked second in the NAIA, meets Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Saturday.  

The Stars tied the game 1-1 in the fifth inning as Tiffany Paul nailed a two-out RBI single to right field.  

Aurelia Holguin pounded a solo home run near the left-field foul pole to put Mid-America Christian on top 1-0 in the second inning. Kassie Martin threw an OCU runner out at the plate in the sixth, and the Evangels closed out the win by turning a double play. 

Rachel Eggleston earned the win by holding OCU to one run on six hits. Shelbey Cornelson allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks. Cornelson fanned seven. 

Against Central Christian, Lexi Duff hammered a two-run home run and drove in three runs. In the third, Duff knocked in the go-ahead run with a base hit to left. Carlee Mollet swiped home to put OCU ahead 3-1. 

Duff belted her sixth homer over the left-field wall in the fifth. Kennedy Jackson added an RBI single in the sixth. 

Cornelson struck out seven while giving up two hits and a walk in five innings. Duff worked the final two innings.
