OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University took a pair of games from Panhandle State 5-4 and 10-2 on Friday evening at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Brooklyn Mason knocked in the winning run in the first game for Oklahoma City, while Lexi Duff brought in three runs in the nightcap. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA softball, went to 37-4, 23-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Mason smacked an RBI base hit into right-center field to put OCU ahead 5-3 in the third inning. Kayli Grove's run-scoring double in the fourth cut into the Stars' lead.
Oklahoma City took a 3-0 first-inning advantage. Rally Radacy pounded an RBI triple to left-center, then scored on a passed ball. Mallory McCoy nailed a two-out RBI single to right.
Kennedy Jackson lofted a sacrifice fly to right to provide the Stars with a 4-0 lead in the second.
Robinson, a senior from Rochester, Ill., went 2-for-2 with a run scored and triple. Kaitlyn Jones, a junior from Edmond, Okla., turned in a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and two stolen bases, and Mason, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., put together a 2-for-3 showing with one RBI.
Shelbey Cornelson notched her 19th complete game of the year. Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., struck out nine in seven innings while giving up one earned run on five hits and five walks. She improved to 22-2 this season.
In the late game, Duff struck for a double off the right-field wall with the bases loaded to bring in three runs in the second. Duff's three-run double provided OCU with a 6-1 second-inning advantage.
OCU took a first-inning 3-0 lead. Jones hit a two-run double to right, then Mason had an RBI single to right.
Tiffany Paul closed out the game with a two-run single through the middle of the infield in the sixth.
Mason supplied OCU with a 3-for-3 outing with two stolen bases, while Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a steal and three runs scored. Duff, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., added a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and three RBIs.
Duff gave up one earned run on eight hits and two walks in six innings. Duff moved her record to 15-2 this year.
Oklahoma City meets Southwestern Christian in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Monday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
