Stars shut down Southwestern Christian in 8-0, 16-0 sweep

Cornelson posts third no-hitter of her career

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blanked Southwestern Christian 8-0 and 16-0 on Monday night at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Oklahoma City, ranked No. 2 in NAIA softball, got an inside-the-park home run from Rally Radacy in the first game and a no-hitter from Shelbey Cornelson in the second contest. The Stars (39-4, 25-3 Sooner Athletic Conference) collide with fifth-ranked Science & Arts with the conference regular-season title at stake 5 p.m. Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Radacy sparked a three-run inning in the fourth inning. Radacy, a freshman from Lookeba, Okla., smacked a line drive along the right-field foul line to the wall into the corner of the ballpark. Radacy took advantage to speed all the way around the bases for her first collegiate homer.

Lexi Duff and Mallory McCoy added RBI singles to put OCU on top 6-0. Amy Crabaugh, Duff and McCoy each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Duff, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., snagged the win to move to 16-2 on the year. Duff got out of a bases-loaded jam after relieving Cornelson in the first. The two teamed to shut out Southwestern Christian on two hits and two walks. Duff struck out three in 4.2 innings.

In the second game, Cornelson notched her third career no-hitter. Madison Jones drew a two-out walk in the first, but Cornelson (23-2) retired Southwestern Christian in order the rest of the way. Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., struck out 10, striking out the side in the third and the fifth.

OCU plated eight runs in the first as Brooklyn Mason and Carlee Mollet each had two-run singles. Grace Pollon drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Stars ahead 8-0.

McCoy hammered a three-run homer to left in the third to give Oklahoma City a 14-0 advantage.

Kaitlyn Jones, a junior from Edmond, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Mason, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., added a 2-for-4 outing, drove in three runs and scored twice.
