OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University honors its student-athletes for their 2021-22 achievements in the 16th annual Jim Wade Awards at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Petree Recital Hall inside the Wanda Bass School of Music.
OCU will unveil the overall Jim Wade Award winners, who will be recognized as the Stars' student-athletes of the year.
The athletic department selected those considered the best representatives of OCU athletics both on and off the field of competition and best embody the ideals of the awards' namesake, the late Gen. Jim Wade. Each OCU team chose its own Jim Wade Award winner to be considered for the overall awards. Oklahoma City's most recent overall Jim Wade Award winners were David Meyers (men's golf) and Cierra Foster (women's wrestling) in 2020-21.
The Stars will induct their latest induction class into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national student-athlete honor society.
Wade competed for OCU in baseball, basketball and football and became an OCU Athletic Hall of Famer and university trustee emeritus. Wade was a general in the U.S. Air Force who was decorated for service in the Korean War and had tours of duty in World War II and the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor of arts from the university in 1949. OCU's baseball field, office suites and soccer press box bear his name.
