OCU pastes Bacone 16-3, 12-4

Fifth-ranked Stars match season best with six home runs

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University flattened Bacone 16-3 and 12-4 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.

Cross Factor clouted three home runs as OCU hit six homers in the first game. The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, moved to 28-3.

Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., took over the individual lead in the NAIA this year with 20 homers. Factor became the first Star to hit three homers in a game since May 8, 2021, when Bryson Lierle had three against Wayland Baptist (Texas) and John Anthon smacked three vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.

The Stars built an 8-1 third-inning advantage on the strength of three home runs. Peyton Crispin pounded a three-run blast to right-center field for his 10th homer of the year in the first. Austin Worley nailed a two-run shot at the scoreboard in left in the second. Also in the second inning, Factor smacked a three-run homer to right.

Hunter Lenochan crushed a two-run double into left-center field for a 10-1 third-inning OCU cushion. Factor's two-run homer to right-center put the Stars ahead 13-1 in the third. Factor hammered a solo shot beyond the right-field wall, while Chad Pike smacked a two-run homer to right. OCU tied its season high with six homers.

Factor knocked in six runs as part of a 3-for-3 outing with four runs scored. Worley, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Eli Davis improved to 6-0 on the season while striking out eight in five innings. Davis, a junior left-hander from Shawnee, Okla., allowed a run on five hits. Travis Herriott worked the last two innings for OCU.

In the second game, Oklahoma City piled up nine runs in the second inning. Darian Luper had three RBIs to spark OCU.

Luper put the Stars ahead 2-1 by hitting a two-run single through the middle of the infield. Luper capped the scoring in the inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk.

Noah Barks launched a two-run double to right-center, and Felix Chenier-Rondeau and Crispin each had RBI singles. In the fifth, Tristan Williams capped the scoring with a two-run base hit to left. Williams, a junior from Southlake, Texas, went 2-for-2 in the second contest.

Chris Bennefield collected his first victory of the year by going the first four innings. Rylan Roberson and Anthony Kopecky combined to keep Bacone off the scoreboard the final three innings.

OCU is set to complete the four-game set against Bacone with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
