OKLAHOMA CITY – Jesse Fonteboa came through with the winning RBI single in Oklahoma City University's 16-15 slugfest win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Fonteboa, a junior from Las Vegas, nailed a base hit into left field to drive in Zach Goodwin from second base in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Stars (17-1, 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference) moved their win streak to 12. Oklahoma City, ranked 20th in NAIA baseball, rallied for its third walk-off victory of the season.
OCU completed the sweep of its first conference series of the year. The Stars scored 41 runs on 41 hits over the three-game set.
On Saturday, the Stars trailed 10-5 in the fourth inning, 11-10 in the sixth and 13-12 in the seventh. OCU tied the game 10-10 with a five-run fourth. Cross Factor crushed an RBI double, while Peyton Crispin smacked a two-run double in the fourth. Crispin reached home plate with the tying run on a passed ball.
Crispin hammered a two-run home run over the center-field wall to put Oklahoma City on top 12-11 in the sixth.
In the seventh, Noah Barks scored on a double-play ground ball. OCU took a 15-13 eighth-inning lead as Felix Chenier-Rondeau launched an RBI triple that bounced over the left fielder to the wall. Rondeau came home on Hunter Brown's sacrifice bunt.
Wayland Baptist tied the game 15-15 in the top of the ninth on Arturo Disla's two-run base hit. Disla went 4-for-6 and drove in seven runs.
Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., topped OCU with a 5-for-6 performance with five RBIs, two doubles and a homer. He had a career-high five hits while matching his career high for runs driven in.
Chad Pike, a sophomore from Southampton, N.Y., produced a 3-for-5 day with two runs scored and an RBI, while Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., turned in a 3-for-5 performance with two runs scored, a double and a run knocked in.
Oklahoma City turned a 4-6-3 double play to get out of the top of the ninth inning with a 15-15 tie. Rylan Roberson, a freshman left-hander from Edmond, Okla., picked up the victory by getting all three outs in the ninth.
The Stars face ninth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
