Stars Improve To 18-1 With Dominating Win Over Southwestern Christian

OCU puts together 14-2 romp after 10-run first inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to 13 games with a dominating 14-2 Sooner Athletic Conference win over Southwestern Christian on Thursday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
 
OCU (18-1, 4-0 SAC) has now scored in double figures three straight games and seven times overall this season. The Stars moved up to No. 6 in the latest NAIA baseball poll after taking the 20th spot in the preseason rankings.
 
The Stars put the game away early, scoring 10 runs on nine hits in the bottom of the first inning. A couple of seniors delivered big blows in the knock-out inning, with first baseman Peyton Crispin delivering a two-run homer to stretch the lead to 4-0 and center fielder Cross Factor delivering a two-RBI double down the right field line to increase the lead to 9-0.
 
OCU finished with 15 hits with Crispin and senior second baseman Noah Barks leading the way with three hits apiece. Factor finished with a team-high three RBIs with Barks, Crispin and senior third baseman Darian Luper contributed two RBIs apiece.
 
Senior Tanner Schoeninger (5-0) earned the win after allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks in a six-inning outing. Schoeninger leads the SAC in wins (five) while ranking fourth in ERA (2.20) and sixth in strikeouts (27).
 
Luper made the move from third base to the pitching mound in the top of the seventh and pitched a scoreless frame to finish the run rule-shortened seven inning contest.
 
OCU and SCU are scheduled to complete the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Dolese Park moved to Sunday due to the weather.
