Stars maul Science & Arts in twin bill 19-4, 14-2

Sixth-ranked OCU blast 10 home runs Saturday

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University muscled its way to 19-4 and 14-2 victories over Science & Arts on Saturday at Bill Smith Ballpark in a showdown of teams ranked among the top 25 in NAIA baseball. 

The Stars ripped 10 home runs on the day as Cross Factor crushed four homers. Sixth-ranked OCU moved to 23-1, 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while 12th-rated Science & Arts dropped to 15-7, 5-3 in the SAC. 

Oklahoma City aims to complete the sweep of the series 2 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium. 

Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., finished the doubleheader 6-for-8 with 12 RBIs. Factor has hit 15 homers in 22 games this year. 

The Stars posted season highs with 19 runs, 21 hits, seven doubles and six homers in the first game. Factor and Jesse Fonteboa belted two homers, while Chad Pike and Cade Stephens went yard as well. In the other game, Factor launched two blasts, and Felix Chenier-Rondeau and Peyton Crispin also homered. 

OCU piled up six runs in the third inning to build a 12-1 advantage. Fonteboa led off the inning by smacking a solo shot. The Stars plated five runs with two outs. Factor pounded a two-run double to right field, and Stephens crushed a three-run blast. 

The Stars opened the scoring with a two-run shot from Factor in the first.  

Pike homered leading off the second to touch off a four-run inning. Noah Barks' single through the middle of the infield knocked in another run. Factor added a sacrifice fly, then Stephens had a run-scoring base hit to left to put OCU on top 6-0. 

In the fourth, Factor nailed a two-run shot. Fonteboa started the fifth by hammering a solo blast for a 15-1 OCU lead. 

In the seventh, the Stars took advantage of the Drovers walking the bases loaded. Crispin cleared the bases with a double to give OCU a 19-2 lead. 

Eli Davis grabbed the win. Davis, a junior left-hander from Shawnee, Okla., kept Science & Arts to two runs on two hits and two walks. Davis (4-0) struck out seven. Isaac Horstman finished up on the mound. 

Factor drove in seven runs and scored four times while going 3-for-4. Barks, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two runs driven in, while Crispin put together a 3-for-4 game with a run scored and three RBIs. Darian Luper turned in a 3-for-5 performance with three doubles and two runs scored. 

In the late game, Factor hit a three-run homer to put the Stars ahead 8-0 in the fourth. Rondeau clouted a three-run homer in the second, and Crispin belted a two-run shot in the third.  

Crispin tacked on an RBI double in the sixth to push the margin to 10-1. Factor smacked a two-run blast in the seventh to make the Oklahoma City cushion 14-1. 

Tanner Schoeninger collected the victory. Schoeninger, a senior righty from Fort Collins, Colo., fanned five in six innings. Schoeninger (6-0) limited Science & Arts to a run on seven hits and a walk. Rylan Roberson pitched the seventh. 

Factor added a 3-for-4 outing with three runs scored and five runs driven in. Rondeau, a sophomore from Blainville, Quebec, Canada, posted a 3-for-4 showing with a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs. Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. 

The Stars improved to 7-1 against top-25 competition this season.
