Oklahoma Panhandle State Rallies To Get Past OCU

GOODWELL, Okla. – Oklahoma Panhandle State defeated Oklahoma City University 71-62 in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday night at Anchor D Arena on the OPSU campus.

OCU (14-9, 9-9 SAC) started the game with a 9-2 run enroute to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and 38-24 halftime lead.  The Stars could not get on track in the second half, however, with the Aggies outscoring the OCU 49-24 over the final 20 minutes of play.

OPSU (4-14, 6-14 SAC) took its first lead of the game at 52-51 on a lay-up by Cassia McCaskell at the 7:44 mark of the fourth quarter. The Aggie lead would stretch to 63-51 before OCU scored its next points on a lay-up by senior guard Erika Ankney at the 2:43 mark, cutting the deficit to 63-53. That's as close as the Stars would get until junior forward Fiona Wilson's 3-pointer at the buzzer cut the final deficit to nine points.

Senior center Abby Selzer led the Stars with 22 points and a team-high tying seven rebounds. Ankney finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

OCU returns to action on Thursday night with a road game at Mid-America Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
