MACU Withstands Late OCU Rally to Post 73-69 Win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian defeated Oklahoma City University 73-69 in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening at Gaulke Activity Center.

MACU (23-2, 16-2 SAC), ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA top-25 poll, had to withstand a late OCU (14-10, 9-10 SAC) rally to extend its winning streak to 14 games.

The Evangels held a 41-25 halftime lead and a 63-49 lead headed into the fourth quarter. The lead stood at 68-58 midway through the fourth quarter before OCU made a charge to get it close.

Senior center Abby Selzer cut the MACU lead to single digits at 68-60 on a lay-up at the 4:19 mark. The lead would shrink to 71-69 on a lay-up by senior guard Erika Ankney with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.

Selzer fouled MACU's Lexi Hernandez on the in-bounds pass to put her on the free throw line with a two-point lead. Hernandez sunk both free throw attempts to push the lead to 73-69.

OCU missed a couple of 3-pointers on its next possession and the home team escaped with the narrow win.

Four of five OCU starters scored in double-figures with Selzer leading the way with 20 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard Annilia Dawn finished with 19 points, Ankney with 15 points and junior forward Fiona Wilson with 10 points.

OCU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Southwestern Christian in the home regular season finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
