OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian defeated Oklahoma City University 73-69 in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening at Gaulke Activity Center.
Â
MACU (23-2, 16-2 SAC), ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA top-25 poll, had to withstand a late OCU (14-10, 9-10 SAC) rally to extend its winning streak to 14 games.
Â
The Evangels held a 41-25 halftime lead and a 63-49 lead headed into the fourth quarter. The lead stood at 68-58 midway through the fourth quarter before OCU made a charge to get it close.
Â
Senior center
Abby Selzer cut the MACU lead to single digits at 68-60 on a lay-up at the 4:19 mark. The lead would shrink to 71-69 on a lay-up by senior guard
Erika Ankney with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
Â
Selzer fouled MACU's Lexi Hernandez on the in-bounds pass to put her on the free throw line with a two-point lead. Hernandez sunk both free throw attempts to push the lead to 73-69.
Â
OCU missed a couple of 3-pointers on its next possession and the home team escaped with the narrow win.
Â
Four of five OCU starters scored in double-figures with Selzer leading the way with 20 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Senior guard
Annilia Dawn finished with 19 points, Ankney with 15 points and junior forward
