Stars Get Past In SAC Tournament Opening Round Contest

Selzer Hits Game-Winning Lay-up With 21 Seconds Remaining

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University edged North Texas Dallas 69-67 in a back-and-forth thriller on Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena in the opening round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

There were 12 lead changes in the contest, with UNTD (12-18) holding its biggest lead at nine points early in the third quarter and OCU (16-12) holding its biggest lead at seven points midway through the fourth quarter.

Senior forward Abby Selzer broke a 67-67 tie with a game-winning lay-up with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. UNTD's Zyunn Cormier missed a jumper with seconds remaining in the game, with senior guard Jordyn Eaton grabbing the defensive rebound to secure OCU's advancement to the quarterfinals of the SAC Tournament.

OCU will play at Mid-America Christian in the quarterfinal round on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Gaulke Center.

OCU won the game despite making only four 3-pointers, tied for the third least made in a game this season.

The made 3-pointers were clutch, however, with junior forward Fiona Wilson's trey at the 4:56 mark of the third quarter sparking a 14-4 run that lifted the Stars from a 42-35 deficit to a 49-46 lead at the end of the quarter.

Freshman Elaine Witt hit a 3-pointer during that run that pushed the lead to 47-44. She later hit a right corner trey that boosted OCU to its biggest lead of the game at 61-54 at the 5:07 mark of the fourth quarter.

Only seven players saw action for the short-handed Stars, with four players playing 33 minutes or more. Witt played all 40 minutes and Eaton played 39 minutes.

Selzer led the team with a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Witt contributed a season-high 17 points and five assists and Wilson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Eaton contributed four points and a career-high eight assists. Coming off the bench, freshman Rachel Barry contributed a season-high eight points and 10 rebounds and senior center Selena Driskill finished with six points and two blocks.
