Stars Fall To MACU In SAC Tournament Quarterfinal Play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian defeated Oklahoma City University 68-58 in quarterfinal round action of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday night at MACU's Gaulke Activity Center.

With the win NAIA No. 22 ranked MACU (27-3) advances to the semifinals of the conference tournament while loss likely ends the season for OCU (16-13).

The Evangels held a 25-15 lead early in the second quarter before the Stars ended the period with a 19-6 run to claim a 34-31 halftime lead. There were five lead changes in the third quarter with MACU holding a slim 46-44 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Junior forward Fiona Wilson made a lay-up to cut MACU's lead 56-53 at the 6:16 mark of the fourth quarter. The Stars would miss their next four shots at that point, allowing the Evangels to build a 62-53 lead with under two and a half minutes remaining.

Freshman guard Elaine Witt broke the scoring drought with a lay-up at the 2:12 mark, cutting the deficit to 62-55. Anna Kash hit a wide-open 3-pointer on MACU's next possession, however, providing the home team an insurmountable 65-55 lead at the 1:56 mark.

Wilson and senior guard Erika Ankney led the Stars with 14 points apiece. Witt and senior center Abby Selzer contributed nine points apiece. Selzer also contributed a team-high 14 rebounds.

Selzer ends her standout career with 1,739 points, the fifth most in OCU history, and 778 rebounds. She was a four-time All-Sooner Athletic Conference honoree, earning first-team honors twice, and one-time SAC Player of the Year and SAC Athlete of the Year.
