OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University came out on top 108-100 in overtime against Southwestern Christian on Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars piled up their most points since a 116-75 romp over Manhattan Christian (Kan.) on Nov. 2, 2018 at Abe Lemons Arena. Oklahoma City (14-13, 13-7 Sooner Athletic Conference) wrapped up its regular-season home slate and look to secure a home game in the SAC men's basketball tournament quarterfinals.
Romario Spence posted his 14th double-double of the season with 23 points and 16 rebounds for OCU. Spence, a senior from Luton, England, collected his sixth consecutive double-double and 10th in 11 outings.
The Stars' Ryan Birt, a senior from Plano, Texas, turned in 22 points, four assists and three steals, while Kori Guest, a junior from Tulsa, Okla., hauled in 16 points.
Dravon Clayborn, a senior from Evanston, Ill, added 15 points and four assists, and Rashaun Coleman, senior from Houston, put up 14 points, seven assists and two steals for OCU. Eric Amandio chipped in 10 points and two thefts, giving the Stars six double-figure scorers.
Oklahoma City made up a 14-point first-half deficit and built a 17-point advantage early in the second period. Southwestern Christian rallied to force overtime on Ron Washington's dunk in transition with four seconds to go in regulation.
Amandio propelled OCU by scoring seven points in the overtime period. Clayborn sank a layup to push the Stars' lead to 104-94 with 1:56 remaining. OCU hit 5 of its 6 field-goal attempts, while holding Southwestern Christian to 2-of-7 shooting from the floor in overtime.
Southwestern Christian shot 67.9 percent from the field in the first half, but the Stars limited the Eagles to a 46.9 percent field-goal percentage in the second half.
OCU takes on Texas Wesleyan at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Fort Worth, Texas.
