ALLEN, Texas – Oklahoma City University took a 4-0 victory over Columbia (Mo.) on Friday morning in a showdown of teams ranked among the top 10 in NAIA softball at the Allen Station Park in the Southern Collegiate Sports Invitational.
The fourth-ranked Stars completed the first day of the season 3-0. OCU held off Baker (Kan.) 8-5 and knocked off Huston-Tillotson (Texas) 5-3.
Against Columbia, Mallory McCoy delivered a two-run single to center field in the fourth inning. The Stars tacked on runs in the sixth on Nicole Robinson's RBI double and the seventh using Brooklyn Mason's run-scoring double into left.
Lexi Duff threw a two-hit complete-game shutout of sixth-ranked Columbia. Duff, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., struck out eight. Mason, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., went 3-for-4.
Against Baker, Oklahoma City jumped out to a 6-0 first-inning advantage. Rally Radacy put the Stars up 6-0 with an RBI base hit to center. Radacy, a freshman from Lookeba, Okla., put together a 2-for-4 performance.
Mason came through against Huston-Tillotson by pounding a two-run home run to break a 3-3 sixth-inning tie. Mason crushed her first career homer for OCU.
The Stars meet Bellevue (Neb.) at 10 a.m. and York (Neb.) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Southern Collegiate Sports Invitational in Allen, Texas.
