OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University outlasted Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Thursday night inside Abe Lemons Arena 76- 59.  

OCU was led by Annilia Dawn with 19 points. The Stars improved to 4-6, 2-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball.

While SAGU tried to mount a comeback multiple times during the second half, OCU never gave in. The Lady Lions' last-ditch effort to take the game over came during a 6-0 run with 6:21 left in the game to cut the Stars' lead to 55-51. OCU fought back and jumped back out to a 69-57 lead after a few free throws and two 3-pointers by Fiona Wilson. OCU's biggest lead came in the final margin.  

The first half was a back-and-forth battle with OCU leading the majority of the time until 3:55 was left in the second period. Dawn shut the Lady Lions down with a buzzer-beating 3 to go into the fourth quarter up 55-44.   

OCU was solid from deep, shooting 35 percent. OCU had 11 more assists than SAGU with 21 as well as less turnovers. Rebounds were even.  

The Stars had four scorers in double digits with OCU's leading scorer being Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, who also picked up seven rebounds and five assists. Wilson, a senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., added 16 points with four 3-pointers, and Amaya Gordon, a junior criminal justice major from Ardmore, Okla., supplied 11 points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals. Cacie Gorman, a junior psychology major from Watonga, Okla., had 11 points.  

"Our attack is so fierce, we just had the confidence tonight to really just lock in on things," Oklahoma City coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "I commend our players for just finding that. That's a great win for our squad. I am so proud of the tenacity, how we came out in the third quarter and how we finished. I thought we had such cohesion and execution on the scoring end. The defense was stifling. We fought hard and look forward to building off this against UNT Dallas." 

OCU hosts North Texas Dallas at 2 p.m. Saturday for the next to last home contest for the Stars before the break.
