OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University failed to overcome North Texas Dallas in a 70-64 verdict Saturday inside Abe Lemons Arena.
Fiona Wilson led the charge for OCU, finishing with 19 points. The Stars fell to 4-7, 2-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball.
Annilia Dawn gave OCU a 42-40 edge with 6:41 left in the third quarter. UNTD proceeded to score nine straight points to jump back ahead.
The Stars trailed by just two points after
Elaine Witt's free throws with 2:29 remaining in the game before UNTD went on an 8-2 run to end the contest. The final and only tie of the game was with eight minutes to go with the score knotted at 54.
The blue crew of OCU out-rebounded (51-42) and had more assists (16-15) than UNT Dallas. The Stars limited UNT Dallas to 35.3 percent shooting from the floor in the second half.
"We scrapped and clawed," OCU coach
Kris Seigenthaler said. "There was no shortage of scrap and fight. We just struggled to hit shots and finish. I think we're going to be scary come January and February. I thought our defense was stifling in the second half, but we struggled to finish on the scoring end in the last 10 minutes."
Wilson, a senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., added nine rebounds and two steals as well as four 3-pointers.
Annilia Dawn, a senior psychology major from Amarillo, Texas, held a solid stat line with 15 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. The majority of Dawn's points came from the line as she made 9 out of 10 free throws.
Amaya Gordon, a junior criminal justice major from Ardmore, Okla., had her first double-double on the season with 12 rebounds and 11 points. She also had three blocks and two steals.
OCU's final game before the holiday break is against Oklahoma Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 in Abe Lemons Arena.
