SAN ANTONIO – Iowa Wesleyan handed Oklahoma City University a 66-43 loss on Monday in the Our Lady of the Lake Classic at the Mabee Gymnasium.
Annilia Dawn served as Oklahoma City's leading scorer with 16 points. The loss brought the Stars' record in women's basketball to 1-3.
OCU's last lead came with 1:19 left in the first period on free throws by Fiona Wilson to make it 17-15. The Stars trailed by as much as 10 with 3:32 left in the first half. Dawn hit a jump shot to cut the lead to four entering the second half.
The Stars scored 12 second-half points. OCU shot 25 percent from the field on the game compared to 51.2 percent for Iowa Wesleyan. Iowa Wesleyan owned the rebounding edge 32- 26.
"That's a tough loss," OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "We failed to execute and defend the 3. Iowa Wesleyan was extremely skilled and efficient."
Dawn turned in four assists and two steals. Elaine Witt ended with double figures as well with 11 points for the Stars. Cacie Gorman led with 12 rebounds and supplied four blocks.
OCU will play Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) next in the Our Lady of the Lake Classic on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
