Stars earn 54-49 win over Our Lady of the Lake

OCU stifle Our Lady of the Lake with defense

SAN ANTONIO – Oklahoma City University gained its second win on the season with a 54-49 win over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Tuesday night at the Mabee Gymnasium in the Our Lady of the Lake Classic.

Oklahoma City limited Our Lady of the Lake to 29.3 percent shooting from the field. The Stars' record is now 2-4.

The game was tightly contested each period as the largest lead was six by the Stars, and the Stars only trailed by five late in the second period. The Stars' six-point lead came with a minute left in the game, and it would stay that way for the remainder of the game.

OCU equaled its season-low point total by an opponent and held a foe to a field-goal percentage below 30 percent for the second time this season. The Stars held the Saints to just 20.8 percent from 3.

The Stars' surge to the lead came with 3:33 left in the game after Cacie Gorman's game-tying free throws. That started a 6-1 run to end the game thanks to Amaya Gordon's and Fiona Wilson's free throws.

Gordon, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., had season highs with 18 points and six rebounds. Wilson, a senior from Greenland, Ark., finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Stars' third double-digit scorer was Cacie Gorman with 11. Gorman, a junior from Watonga, Okla., also had six rebounds.

"That is arguably one of the top defensive performances that we have had," OCU coach Kris Seigenthaler said. "The energy and effort was next level defensively. The last two SAC games have given us a lot of confidence on finishing at the end. This is a huge road win for our program."

OCU will battle it out next against Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 1 p.m. on Saturday in an exhibition match in Lubbock, Texas.
