Stars drop match to USAO 2-1

Stars settle for 6 seed in SAC tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University ends the 2022 regular season with 1-2 loss against Science and Arts of Oklahoma at Brian Harvey Field on Saturday night. The Stars finish the regular season with four losses and one tie in their last five games to fall to 10-6-1, 4-4-1 on the season. This game was very crucial for who would get what seed in the SAC tournament. Ultimately, the Drovers came out on top to take the third seed while the Stars settle for the sixth seed.

The Stars started out with a Jusang Kang goal in the 39th minute that he stirred up all by himself. He run to catch up to the ball on the right-hand side, he faked out a couple of a couple defenders out with fancy foot maneuvers to get the shot off. The shot went into the right post just out of reach of the goalkeeper. The goal was his sixth of the year and would be the Stars only goal for the game. The first period had 20 seconds in it when the Drovers scored their first goal on a goal that got by Danilo Vilani and hit the left post and dribbled in. OCU and Science and Arts had plenty of good shots on goal in the second period. Vilani kept them in the game with multiple impressive saves in the second period. It was in the 68th minute that the Drovers second and game-winning goal got by him.

OCU had their best chance at a goal after a yellow card on the goalkeeper in the box allowed for a penalty shot. Harvey Paul took the shot and missed after it hit the top cross bar and bounced down and was cleared away by a Drover defender.

The Drovers out shot the Stars in both periods. In the first OCU had three shots compared to their seven. Overall, OCU had 10 shots with seven on goal, while Science and Arts had 15 shots and 13 shots on goal. Vilani finished with 11 saves. The Drovers switched goalies after the first and finished with six saves.

OCU finished their 2022 regular season, but they will have more chances to show how much is left in their tank in the SAC tournament. They also have a shot at some revenge as they play Science and Arts again on Saturday, November 5th at 7:00 pm at McLaughlin Field in Chickasha, Oklahoma for their first match in the SAC playoff tournament.
