Stars drop matchup to SCU 3-1

Woodhead notches only goal

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City falls to Southwestern Christian by a final score of 3-1 on Tuesday night at Brian Harvey Field. The Stars record stands at 10-3, 4-1, which is good enough for third in the SAC standings. Southwestern Christian is second, which made this an important matchup for both teams.

Southwestern Christian got the first two goals of the game with a goal in the 32nd and 55th minute. Twenty minutes had passed with the Stars having a multitude of chances and more than one shot go off the cross bar and off the goalkeepers' hands that they couldn't rebound off of. In the second period alone OCU had 12 shots with half of them coming in the first 10 minutes. Two were saved, one header hit the cross bar and one was blocked. John Woodhead had a header in the 70th minute that hit the crossbar and missed by less than a foot. He would follow that near miss up one minute later with a goal. A Southwestern Christian player assisted him on the goal while trying to clear it away from Jordan Da Costa with a slide kick. It ultimately went straight to Woodhead who shot it past the goalkeeper for his 11th goal on the year. OCU had other chances but had a hard time gaining control of the ball to end the game as they played the final 19 minutes with 10 players. The Eagles would get an insurance score in the 80th minute to seal the victory.

Overall, the matchup was full of shots with the Stars totaling 17 shots compared to the Eagles 16. Both teams had 6 shots on goal. Woodhead ended with six shots and Da Costa had four to lead the team. Danilo Vilani had three saves on the night on the six shot attempts.

OCU heads to play Mid-America Christian University on Saturday at 7:30 P.M. for their next matchup.  The Stars hope to get back in the win column and dethrone the undefeated MACU Evangels as they are atop the SAC standings and undefeated in conference play.
