CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Oklahoma City University pasted Science & Arts 25-15, 25-20, 27-25 on Thursday night at Drover Fieldhouse.
Catelyn Vargas provided OCU with 11 kills. The Stars improved to 10-11, 8-6 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
Vargas, a senior from Lubbock, Texas, posted four blocks. Rylee Steward, a junior from Edmond, Okla., collected 10 kills and four blocks.
Kaitlyn Dunlap, a sophomore from Wichita Falls, Texas, topped OCU with 14 digs. Cassidy DeShong, a sophomore from Amarillo, Texas, turned in 16 assists, five digs and two aces.
Emma Vance, a junior from Norman, Okla., produced 15 assists, five digs and three aces, while Ruby Kelley, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., scooped up 11 digs for the Stars. OCU served up 11 aces to notch double-digit aces for the fourth time this season.
Kelley landed an ace to put Oklahoma City ahead 21-10 in the first set.
In the second set, the Stars erased a 14-11 deficit. OCU reeled off a 7-0 onslaught as Vance delivered three aces.
In the third set, Science & Arts picked up three points in a row to move ahead 24-22. OCU outscored the home team 5-1 to close out the match. Vargas teamed with Hannah Grundy on a pair of blocks during that stretch including a block that gave the Stars a 26-25 edge.
The Stars face Central Christian (Kan.) at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 in McPherson, Kan.
