SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University extended its winning streak to three games with a 73-62 Sooner Athletic Conference win over John Brown on Thursday evening at Bill George Arena. The win was also the fifth in the last six games for the Stars.
JBU (13-9, 7-7 SAC) started the game with a 17-4 run before OCU (11-10, 10-4 SAC) mounted a furious comeback. The Stars tied the score 29-29 on jumper by senior
Romario Spence at the 4:43 mark enroute to claiming a 34-29 halftime lead over the home team.
OCU took its first double-digit lead of the evening at 39-29 on a right corner 3-pointer by senior guard
Ryan Birt at the 18:00 mark of the second half. The lead would shrink to 3 points at 53-50 but the Stars responded with a 16-2 run, taking an insurmountable 69-52 lead on two free throws by Birt at the 5:08 mark.
All five starters scored in double-figures for the Stars. Junior forward
Kori Guest led the way with a team-high 18 points, followed by senior guard
Rashaun Coleman who finished with 14 points. Birt finished with 13 points, senior guard
Dravon Clayborn with 12 points and Spence with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
OCU out-rebounded JBU 35-33 while limiting the Golden Eagles to 9 of 33 shooting (27.3%) from beyond the 3-point arc.
Next up for OCU is a Thursday home game against No. 12 ranked Southwestern Assemblies of God. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at Abe Lemons Arena.
