MARSHALL, Mo. – Three Oklahoma City University wrestlers came through to place in the Missouri Valley Invitational men's wrestling tournament Saturday at the Burns Athletic Complex.
Keegan Luton paced Oklahoma City with a third-place showing at 149 pounds. The Stars' Jon McGowan finished fifth at 157, while Cade Manion picked up sixth at 141.
Luton, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., toppled John Diener of Morningside (Iowa) 3-2 in the third-place match. Diener entered the tournament ranked fourth among NAIA 149-pounders. Luton pulled off two wins over ranked individuals this weekend, also knocking off 13th-ranked Beau Bickham from Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).
Luton reached the third-place contest with a 4-1 win over Nicholas Camacho of Menlo (Calif.). Luton went 5-1 in the event with two major-decision victories, moving to 17-2 on the season.
Cooper Mahaffey and Jack Kitchingham each pinned two opponents to lead the Stars. OCU ended up in 14th place with 61 points. Many ranked NAIA teams competed in the tournament, and the Stars finished ahead of 18th-ranked Embry-Riddle.
Oklahoma City returns to the mat in the Northeastern A&M Golden Norsemen Open on Jan. 29 in Miami, Okla.
