OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stayed unbeaten in men's wrestling duals against NAIA competition this season with a 31-15 win over Texas Wesleyan on Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena.
Jack Kitchingham and Cooper Mahaffey provided falls for Oklahoma City, now 7-1 on the season in duals. The Stars have prevailed in their past seven duals for the first time since winning eight in a row during the 2018-19 season.
Mahaffey sparked OCU with a fall at 125 pounds. Mahaffey, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., racked up his fifth pin and his fastest fall of the season, finishing off Jeremy McPherson in 41 seconds. Mahaffey improved to 6-8 on the season.
Kitchingham punctuated the win by pinning Emmet Bivens in the heavyweight contest. Kitchingham, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., completed the fall in 5:44. Kitchingham (11-5) delivered his ninth fall of the season.
Chase Vincent reeled in a 13-4 victory for Oklahoma City at 184. Vincent, a senior from Yukon, Okla., collected a four-point near fall towards the end of the first period and two-point reversal early in the third period. Vincent, ranked 17th nationally at his weight, moved to 7-3 in 2021-22.
Easton Rendleman secured a 6-3 win in the 197-pound bout. Rendleman, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., grabbed three takedowns in the first period. Rendleman, ranked seventh among NAIA 197-pounders, upped his season record to 9-1.
The Stars scooped up wins in the final five matches. Oklahoma City took the lead in the dual when Texas Wesleyan gave away forfeits at 165 and 174 pounds. OCU wrestled its first dual at Abe Lemons Arena since Jan. 31, 2020.
OCU returns to the mat in the Missouri Valley Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Marshall, Mo.
