OCU boasts of record Athletic Director's List recipients

Stars own top combined yearly grade-point average of past 10 years

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University honored 246 student-athletes on the spring 2021 Athletic Director's List for a record amount of recipients.
Oklahoma City recognizes student-athletes who achieve a 3.0 or better grade-point average over the previous semester on the Athletic Director's List. The Stars topped the 236 honorees on the fall 2020 Athletic Director's List.
The Stars boasted of a 3.332 combined GPA over 2020-21 after producing a 3.35 combined GPA in the spring. OCU compiled its best overall GPA of the past decade.
"I'm so impressed with the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes, in particular during a year with so many other pressures and changes due to COVID," Oklahoma City athletic director Jim Abbott said. "We are fortunate to have outstanding coaches who prioritize academic achievement in their recruiting efforts and to have students who balance the rigors of academics and athletics."
During the spring semester, 37 Stars posted a 4.0 or better GPA, and 108 landed a 3.75 or better GPA. OCU student-athletes with a 3.5 or better GPA over the semester numbered 160, and 215 had a 3.25 or better GPA.
The OCU pom/dance team paced the Stars with 23 Athletic Director's List award winners during the spring 2021 semester. OCU baseball and women's soccer tallied 22 recipients, while the Stars' men's cross country and track & field squad had 20 honorees. The Stars recognized at least 200 student-athletes on the Athletic Director's List for the seventh consecutive semester.
The Stars reach excellence both in competition and in the classroom. Oklahoma City captured the 2021 NAIA competitive cheerleading championship to extend its streak of winning at least one national title to 28 years dating back to 1993-94. OCU has taken 70 national championships in all sports with three Directors' Cup titles (2016-17, '17-18 and '18-19).
