Stars hammer Southwestern Assemblies of God 11-2

Second-ranked OCU collides with No. 3 Science & Arts at 1 p.m. Saturday for SAC Tournament title

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University secured a spot in the Sooner Athletic Conference softball tournament championship with an 11-2 romp past Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, seeks its fourth consecutive SAC Tournament crown. The Stars (43-3) face third-ranked Science & Arts at 1 p.m. Saturday in the conference tournament title game at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City owns 19 SAC Tournament championships. The Stars square off with Science & Arts for the third time in row in the league tournament final.
On Friday, Kaitlyn Jones pounded a three-run double deep to left-center field to give OCU a 5-0 second-inning lead. Kennedy Jackson made it a four-run inning with a run-scoring base hit.
The Stars went ahead 7-0 on Amy Crabaugh's sacrifice fly in the third. Jaden Shores belted a triple deep to right-center to bring home another run in the inning.
In the fourth, Shores launched a three-run home run beyond the left-field wall. Baileigh Loux smacked an RBI double to deep left field for the final margin.
Shores, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, four RBIs and a base hit, double and homer, while Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., put together a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored and an RBI. Loux, a senior from Reno, Nev., contributed a 2-for-3 outing, scored twice and drove in a run.
Christie Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., improved to 22-0. Betker struck out five in five innings.
