OCU recognizes Foster, Meyers as Jim Wade Award winners

Foster, Meyers named Stars' 2020-21 student-athletes of year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University honored David Meyers and Cierra Foster as its 2020-21 Jim Wade Award winners Sunday at Abe Lemons Arena.
The annual Jim Wade Awards recognize those Stars who best represent OCU and reflect Wade's spirit as the student-athletes of the year. Meyers, a senior golfer from Johannesburg, South Africa, and Foster, a senior wrestler from Post Falls, Idaho, collected OCU student-athletes of the year.
Meyers has established Oklahoma City men's golf records for career wins (11) and consecutive victories (six) while matching the single-season mark for wins (six) and the top round by an OCU golfer (62). Meyers has posted a 68.45 stroke average this season to be on pace for the best single-season scoring average in program history.
In his OCU career, Meyers has become a three-time Golf Coaches Association of America all-American, two-time NAIA all-American, two-time Sooner Athletic Conference men's golfer of the year, three-time all-SAC, three-time all-region, two-time all-tournament in the SAC Championships, all-tournament in the NAIA Championships, six-time SAC player of the week, two-time NAIA player of the week, SAC men's golf student-athlete of the year and three-time SAC commissioner's honor roll. Meyers has led OCU to three conference titles and the 2018 NAIA championship.
Foster took two NAIA all-American honors and the 2021 155-pound SAC individual championship. She has lauded for her classroom work with the NAIA scholar-athlete, SAC scholar-athlete, academic all-SAC and two conference commissioner's honor roll honors.
During summer 2020, Foster performed research through an online program at the University of Nebraska. From home, Foster, a chemistry and mathematics major, calculated how elastic samples respond to stretching and relaxing after undergoing surface chemical reactions. Her research was funded by a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates grant as directed by Professor Stephen Morin and graduate mentor Ali Mazaltarim. Foster will attend the Ohio State University's chemistry PhD program and wrestle for the Ohio State regional training center in the fall.
The late Gen. Jim Wade competed for Oklahoma City as a baseball, basketball and football student-athlete before becoming a trustee to the university, OCU Athletics Hall of Famer and one of the most prominent benefactors and supporters of the athletic department.
Wade attained the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Air Force. Wade became decorated for service in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He flew 55 missions in Korea. His list of citations includes the Order of the Sword, Legion of Merit Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Gold Palm and Combat Readiness Award.
OCU recognized its 2020-21 class into Chi Alpha Sigma, a national student-athlete academic honor society. Chi Alpha Sigma is a nonprofit organization established to recognize college student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition.
The national scholar-athlete honor society was founded in 1996 by then-DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
