OCU falls short to Science & Arts 4-3

NAIA Championship Opening Round pairings to be unveiled Thursday

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Science & Arts rallied for a 4-3 win over Oklahoma City University on Monday at Bill Smith Ballpark in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament championship.
Oklahoma City (33-17) led 3-1 in the seventh inning. The Stars, ranked 21st in the NAIA, has reached the SAC Tournament title game the past three league tournaments.
The NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round field will be announced Thursday. Eleventh-ranked Science & Arts (34-10) took the SAC's automatic national qualifying berth as the league tournament champion.
Cross Factor smacked a run-scoring single shallow in right field to put the Stars on top 3-1 with two out in the seventh inning.
In the fifth, OCU tied the game 1-1 as Noah Barks brought home Peyton Crispin on a sacrifice fly to center field. The Stars went up 2-1 as Dalton Reed reached home plate on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., put together a 3-for-4 performance, while Gunner Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., and Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., each went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Tanner Sparks, a junior from Shawnee, Okla., struck out six in 6.2 innings. Sparks kept Science & Arts to one run through six innings. Braden Hill took the loss.
Science & Arts evened the score in the seventh. Brandon Shumway and Ian Laureano each had RBI singles.
Jake Womack doubled along the left-field foul line to drive in the winning run in the eighth.
