OCU drops 3-2, 7-1 decisions to Science & Arts

Stars takes second seed in SAC Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University fell to Science & Arts 3-2 and 7-1 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium in a matchup of top 25-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Science & Arts, ranked 11th, took the Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championship. The 21st-ranked Stars (29-15, 19-5 SAC) will be the No. 2 seed in the SAC Tournament on May 7-10.
Oklahoma City built a 2-0 second-inning lead in the first game. Dalton Reed crushed a solo blast over the left-field wall. Peyton Crispin knocked in OCU's second run on a base hit to right field.
Science & Arts' Ian Laureano hit a fifth-inning home run to prove the difference.
Tanner Schoeninger posted his second complete game of the year. Schoeninger, a senior right-hander from Fort Collins, Colo., struck out five in seven innings.
Cade Stephens, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a double off the wall and a run scored. Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., hammered his 18th home run of the year.
In the second game, Gunner Halter nailed a solo homer over the left-field wall in the sixth for the Stars. Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., went 2-for-3 with his 13th homer of the year.
Cristian Laboy hit a grand slam as part of Science & Arts' five-run fifth inning.
Connor Ferguson worked the first 4.1 innings for OCU. Tyler Polk and Tanner Sparks also pitched for the Stars.
Ricardo Velez turned in a complete-game effort for Science & Arts, striking out eight. Velez picked up the win in the second game and a save in the early game.
