Stars rally for 12-3 win over Sterling

OCU splits twin bill with Sterling

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University split a doubleheader with Sterling (Kan.), falling 10-6 before winning 12-3 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
In the second game, Gunner Halter pounded a three-run home run for the go-ahead runs. The Stars went to 20-12 in baseball this season.
In the fourth inning, Sterling took a 3-2 edge, but OCU battled back with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Cade Stephens smacked an RBI double into center, and Halter nailed a three-run homer to put OCU on top 6-3. Dalton Reed nailed a two-run double into left-center field.
Halter and Reed tacked on run-scoring doubles. Evan Maun had a pinch-hit two-run homer in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Tyler Polk collected the victory. Polk (2-1) struck out two in 1.1 innings pitched. Braden Hill and Halter each turned in scoreless innings.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., went 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs, while Noah Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., added a 2-for-3 outing with two runs scored. Reed, a senior from Roff, Okla., went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Stephens, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., posted a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI.
In the first game, OCU's rally fell short as the Stars scored six unanswered runs. Bryson Lierle sparked the Stars with an RBI double into right-center field.
Also in the second, Stephens doubled to left to knock in a run.
Peyton Crispin brought home a run on a base hit to left, and Cross Factor nailed an RBI single to score the Stars' fourth run in the fourth.
Lierle and Stephens each scored on wild pitches in the fifth.
Lierle went 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run. Reed went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Halter was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Stars return to Sooner Athletic Conference play against Panhandle State at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
