Stars derail Central Baptist 3-2, 4-2

No. 2-ranked OCU extends its winning streak to 22 contests

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University toppled Central Baptist (Ark.) 3-2 and 4-2 on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium in a clash of top 20-ranked teams in NAIA softball.
The Stars moved to 6-1 against top-25 teams this year. Second-ranked Oklahoma City improved to 39-3, while No. 18 Central Baptist fell to 27-11.
OCU ran its winning streak to 24 games and halted Central Baptist's eight-game winning string.
Kaitlyn Jones provided the winning RBI in both games. Jones smacked a run-scoring single to left field with two out in the sixth inning of the first game.
OCU overcame a 2-0 deficit. Jones nailed an RBI double to deep left-center field to give the Stars their first run in the fifth. Jones scored the tying run on Sarah Fisher's infield hit.
Christie Betker earned her 20th victory of the season. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., struck out five while registering her 18th complete game of 2021.
Jones, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., posted a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a run scored. Kennedy Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base, and Fisher, a senior from Vista, Calif., put together a 2-for-4 outing with a run driven in.
In the second game, Jones drove in the winning run by lofting a sacrifice fly deep to left in the sixth. Fisher tacked on another run by poking an RBI single along the left-field line. Central Baptist evened the score 2-2 in the top of the sixth.
OCU took a 1-0 first-inning lead on Jones' base hit to right. In the third, Fisher reached home plate as Brooklyn Mason grounded out.
Jones turned in a 3-for-3 showing and drove in two runs, while Jackson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two steals. Fisher was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Lexi Duff worked the final 1.2 innings to take the win. Duff, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., went to 6-2 on the year. Shelbey Cornelson fanned three in the first 5.1 innings.
The Stars complete the regular season against Southwestern Christian at 4 p.m. Monday at Dolese Park in Oklahoma City.
