Stars crush Langston 8-0, 12-0

OCU earns fourth consecutive shutout

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University cruised to 8-0 and 12-0 wins over Langston on Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Baileigh Loux hit a home run, and Christie Betker and Shelbey Cornelson posted shutouts for the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked second in NAIA softball, improved to 35-3, 28-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., turned in her fourth blanking in four starts. Betker (18-0) kept Langston without a hit through 2.2 innings. Betker struck out the side in the second inning.
Loux pounded a solo blast over the left-field wall in the first inning. The Stars maintained a 1-0 lead until the fifth, when OCU piled up seven runs.
In the fifth, Mallory McCoy scored on a fielder's choice, then Nicole Robinson reached home plate on a grounder.
Loux added an RBI single, then Lexi Duff knocked in a run on a base hit. Amy Crabaugh nailed a two-run double to the left-field wall, and McCoy smacked an RBI double deep into right field.
Loux, a senior from Reno, Nev., provided OCU with a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Duff, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run. McCoy, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI, and Brooklyn Mason, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., added a 2-for-3 showing with a run scored.
In the nightcap, Oklahoma City plated five runs in the fourth. Kelsie Delap singled to left-center to bring in a run. Crabaugh, McCoy and Kaitlyn Jones picked up RBI singles.
Duff tacked on a two-run double in the fifth. Jackson had an RBI double in the second and a run-scoring base hit in the third. McCoy brought home two runs on a double to left-center in the third.
McCoy scored twice and drove in three runs as part of a 3-for-4 outing, and Jaden Shores, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Mason was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Crabaugh, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Jackson went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in.
Cornelson, a sophomore from Tuttle, Okla., held Langston to three hits while striking out eight in five innings. Cornelson (11-1) struck out the side in the second and fourth innings.
The Stars have a showdown with third-ranked Science & Arts in a 2 p.m. twin bill Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
