OCU baffles Panhandle State 8-0, 5-0

Betker twirls her second no-hitter of 2021

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University rolled to 8-0 and 5-0 victories over Panhandle State on Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
OCU racked up its 18th win in a row. The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA softball, improved to 33-3, 26-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Oklahoma City's Christie Betker and Shelbey Cornelson posted shutouts. Betker, a senior from Reno, Nev., collected her second no-hitter and 10th blanking of the season. Betker retired Panhandle State in order through three innings before allowing a walk to Jaylinn Reyes leading off the fourth. Betker (17-0) struck out six. Betker's previous no-hitter was a perfect game against Central Christian (Kan.) on April 6 at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Baileigh Loux crushed a two-run home run over the center-field wall to put OCU ahead 2-0 in the fourth inning.
The Stars plated six runs in the fifth. Kennedy Jackson and Nicole Robinson reached home plate on an error for the first runs of the inning. Sarah Fisher pounded a two-run blast beyond the center-field wall. Loux scored on an error, and Lexi Duff drove in a run on a pinch-hit single.
Loux, a senior from Reno, Nev., went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Jaden Shores, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Kaitlyn Jones, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., turned in a 2-for-3 outing with a run scored.
Cornelson, a sophomore from Tuttle, Okla., registered her fifth shutout of the year. Cornelson (10-1) limited Panhandle State to four hits and two walks while striking out five.
In the second, Amy Crabaugh smacked a run-scoring double off the right-field wall to give OCU a 1-0 lead. Robinson scored on Fisher's bunt hit in the third.
The Stars' lead widened to 4-0 in the fourth. Shores led off by launching a solo shot over the center-field wall. Mallory McCoy hit a sacrifice fly to left-center field.
Loux tacked on another run with an RBI single in the fifth. Fisher and Shores each went 2-for-3 to lead the Stars' attack.
OCU meets Langston in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
