OCU topples Southwestern Christian 6-3, 10-4

Stephens leads Stars with seven runs driven in

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University came away with the series win by sweeping a twin bill from Southwestern Christian 6-3 and 10-4 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Cade Stephens launched a grand slam and finished the day with seven RBIs to spearhead Oklahoma City. The Stars went to 28-13, 18-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference baseball.
OCU scored all its runs of the first game in the fourth inning. Stephens sparked the Stars by lofting a grand slam over the right-field wall. Peyton Crispin pounded a solo shot to right. Gunner Halter nailed an RBI double deep to left-center field to give the Stars a 6-1 advantage.
Tanner Schoeninger took the win by holding Southwestern Christian to one hit and seven walks over six innings. Schoeninger, a senior right-hander from Fort Collins, Colo., improved to 6-2. Schoeninger only allowed Jarod Beres' triple to lead off the second.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., and Cross Factor, a senior from Yukon, Okla., each had doubles.
In the next game, OCU went up 4-0 in the second. Stephens belted a two-run double deep into left-center. Crispin and John Anthon each tacked on RBI singles.
In the third, Bryson Lierle nailed a run-scoring double along the right-field foul line. Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to left.
The Stars put together an 8-3 advantage in the fourth. Anthon hammered a solo blast to right, while Noah Barks smacked an RBI single to left.
Crispin added a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth, and Dalton Reed picked up an RBI hit in the sixth.
Lierle, a senior from Altus, Okla., turned in a 4-for-4 performance with two runs scored and an RBI, and Anthon, a senior from Dublin, Calif., went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in. Barks, a junior from Mustang, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Connor Ferguson snared the win while striking out six in 4.2 innings. Ferguson, a redshirt freshman right-hander from Boise, Idaho, improved to 4-0.
The Stars take on Bethany (Kan.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
