OCU seeks second straight SAC title

Stars have taken 16 league crowns

ARDMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University takes aim at a repeat Sooner Athletic Conference women's golf title in the conference championships Monday and Tuesday at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club.
The SAC Championships start 8 a.m. Monday and will last 54 holes on the par-72, 5,810-yard course. The tournament field includes Texas Wesleyan, ranked 13th in the NAIA, and 16th-rated Oklahoma City.
The Stars took the SAC crown for the 16th time and seventh instance in eight years by 12 shots April 19-20, 2019 at Lincoln Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City. OCU collected the conference title the last time the SAC Championships took place at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club on April 22-23, 2013 on the way to the 2013 national championship.
Oklahoma City has wins in its last two tournaments. The Stars grabbed their third win of the season in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on April 12-13 at Lincoln Park's East Course. OCU won by one shot over Redlands and ended three strokes ahead of Texas Wesleyan.
Natalie Gough wrapped up the victory with a par putt on the 18th hole. Gough, a junior from Bixby, Okla., came in second at three shots off the pace with a 72-73–145.
Gough has posted 76.56 shots per round with a victory during 2020-21. Gough garnered SAC golfer of the week for the second consecutive time this season and third time in her OCU career. Gough snared an all-tournament nod in the 2019 SAC Championships.
The Stars' Clair Hill has turned in a 78.93 scoring average in 2020-21. Hill, a senior from Gig Harbor, Wash., nabbed her first career win in the Southern Plains Intercollegiate on Sept. 14-15 at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City. Hill has three top-five showings among OCU's seven events this season.
Perry Maxwell designed Dornick Hills. It is typically considered among the top five golf courses in Oklahoma. Maxwell is known as the architect of Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., and for redesigning Augusta National Golf Club and Pine Valley Golf Club among others. The Dornick Hills clubhouse features a view of the Arbuckle Mountains.
Oklahoma City owns eight national championships won in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
